The Navigation Project is a permanent installation at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport on Concourse E at Gate 11. Fifty-four photographs (each 30 inches square) are mounted in eight steel panels, and a Copernican globe fills the skylight. The murals are photographic collages made from maps, astronomical charts and NASA images. The series explores ideas about travel, astronomy, the history of science and life's place in the universe. The work was commissioned in 1996 by the Atlanta Bureau of Cultural Affairs in conjunction with the Centennial Olympic Games.
